“I agree with the withdrawal.
I wrote an Op-Ed in USA Today back in February stating how important it is to get our servicemen and women out of Afghanistan. Withdrawal from Afghanistan was a pillar of the Trump Administration’s foreign policy. Even as far back as a candidate, former President Trump campaigned on getting our nation’s military out of “endless wars.”
I supported President Trump’s position then, just as I support President Biden’s decision to ultimately withdraw our remaining forces in Afghanistan, albeit later than Trump’s May 1 departure timeline.
Our men and women in uniform over the past 20 years fought bravely, performed their duties with honor, and many lost their lives for this country. We must ensure the American public sees this as a victory for our forces and ensure their sacrifice and that of their families is not in vain.”
